Artist Statement

Some say that clay is fragile yet many of my clay creations have been slammed into slabs or centred on the wheel.  They have been carved and cut into, fired once to 1000 C° in an electric kiln then fired asecond time in an outdoor gas kiln. They have been plucked from a red hot heat, plunged into straw and leaves, enveloped in flames and finally smothered in smoke. Fragile? I don’t think so. Some say the human spirit is fragile. I don’t think so. My clay creations are designed to celebrate the beauty and power of the human spirit; to light a candle in honour of a Circle of Women, to let incense rise from my sculpture The Offering, to look into one of my masks and perhaps be drawn deeper into yourself.  It is my hope that my clay creations will find sanctuary within your home and help you celebrate the strength and beauty of your spirit.
