Artist Membership
of The Arts Council of the Blue Ridge

For Visual, Performing & Literary Artists

WHY AN ARTIST MEMBERSHIP

The Arts Council of the Blue Ridge established an artist membership in 2001 in order to better serve the artists of southwestern Virginia. There are currently over 250 members, including visual, performing and literary artists.

WHO SHOULD JOIN

Open to all visual, literary & performing artists in southwest Virginia

BENEFITS INCLUDE

  • Free Listing in Artists’ Registry
The Arts Council has struggled to update our Artists’ Registry because artists move, add services, etc. and do not let us know. Through an annual membership we know each year that our information is correct. This is most important because we use the registry when we pass along information to businesses and individuals seeking artists’ services.
  • Free workshops
We must charge a fee in order to continue our workshop series, but workshops are free to members. Examples of previous workshop topics include: marketing, tax and legal issues, slide production, etc.
  • Web Site Listing
As with our registry, we utilize our membership list to be certain this is up to date. We provide a page dedicated to each artist with an image of their work and links to artists who have Web sites. For those artists who do not have sites, we offer the option to purchase a domain name which can be used with their own artist page to create a “mini-Web site.”
  • Invitations to all Arts Council Events
including the annual meeting and legislative coffee.
  • Service of Arts Council as a Liaison
between artists, businesses, governments, art collectors, etc.
  • “ArtsFlash” Weekly Electronic Newsletter
with information you can use on upcoming shows and events, as well as information about fellow artists.
  • Resource Library
for information on competitions, shows, grants.
  • Representation on The Arts Council Board
We assure your collective voice is heard by asking a member of the artists’ membership to sit on the Board of Directors.
  • Inclusion in the Art in the Window program
Members can display their work in windows or other spaces in Downtown Roanoke for 2 month periods.

Other ideas for programs & services are growing out of the artists discussion groups. Make your voice heard also, by joining The Arts Council of the Blue Ridge, the only organization which speaks with a unified voice for the region’s artists & cultural organizations.
