Carroll Dunham Biography
Carrol Dunham, an American painter, was born in 1949. His work is influenced by a variety of post-modern movements including surrealism, psychedelia, cartooning and organic life forms. His eclectic style of painting has become best known for his merging of cartoonish and bimorphic figures in work that is emotionally complex and often sexually suggestive.
While Dunham’s work has been cited as rude and vulgar by many critics, his paintings have been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe. Some of these famous venues include the Musée d´Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in Paris, the Museo Nacional Centro de Reina Sofia in Madrid and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Dunham currently lives and works in New York City. His work, which is colorful, post-modern and reminiscent of Picasso, continues to be discussed as a vehicle for popular culture. This extraordinary body of work has recently been featured in solo exhibits in New York, Oslo and Cologne. Despite the crude subject matter, Carrol Dunham’s work is an important statement and view of our contemporary culture.
